19th C. antique folk art primitive textile (cloth) embroidered and decorated by the maker with black and white dancing couples.I believe the maker might have been made this right after the Civil War when the slaves were freed. Cloth is made of 2-16 1/2" wide hand spun and hand woven wool panels. it appears the wool has been vegetable dyed with onions. Cotton lining is lightly attached to the back of the textile and appears to be an indigo dye. Lining appears to be ...hand woven with panels measuring 23"and 10".Cloth is trimmed along the outside edge with a wool fringe.Figures are of a fine wool cross stitch.Figures appear to form a border around the cloth making appear to table cover.Measures 33" x 58"Wear is noted to the cross stitch and a few of the of the faces are missing. Please see photos Fringe is worn and some areas are gone.There are a few tiny spots noted on the wool background.Otherwise, its a wonderfully rare Civil War era antique Americana Primitive.
