1864 Abraham Lincoln Ferrotype - Political Campaign Locking Pin.This small round gilt brass pin with a ferrotype of Abraham Lincoln was created during the period prior to the 1864 Presidential election. The small tintype i...s 15mm diameter and adhered to the center of the pin. Lincoln's name is printed above his head. The back is tin with a pin that locks down to prevent loss, a feature not found on many campaign pins of this period.A exact copy of this piece in the National collection states that the maker of these pins was The Scoville Button Co. Waterbury, Mass. In what few examples of this I found in my research, none have any markings, so I can't verify the maker for sure.Condition overall is very good. The image is visible straight on, but at an angle (as I have photographed it) you can see the rust underneath causing some lifting of the emulsion. The pin lock is in place (thin tin usually broken off on what I have seen. The pin still has a good look for display, and would certainly fill the void until it could be upgraded.Scarce piece of Civil War political memorabilia.
