A thrilling action adventure story is the scenario for "Fair Wind To Java." There is fighting among pirates and good guys, a graphic flogging of a beautiful slave girl and a massive eruption of a volcano, all in brilliant color. Although it's... the usual good guys vs. bad guys genre, the story line is good and action abounds everywhere as the good and the bad search for a fortune in diamonds. Good performances by MacMurray, Ralston and Douglas.Synopsis by Hal Erickson Republic Pictures' notion of an "epic", "Fair Wind to Java" manages to pack in enough entertainment value to send the adventure fans home happy. Tough South Seas skipper Fred MacMurray goes hunting for pearls on a forbidden Javanese island. Native girl Vera Ralston (never mind her Czech accent) falls in love with MacMurray and defies local laws to help him. She is punished by the island rulers, compelling MacMurray to spirit both Vera and the pearls off the island. As they make a last desperate attempt to escape, a lava-spewing volcano threatens to destroy the island... the climactic volcanic eruption is masterfully staged by miniature experts Howard Lydecker and Theodore Lydecker.ABOUT THE PRINT -16mm / Color- Fuji stock which retains the blues, greens and yellows but the blacks are in the brownish range in many indoor scenesALSO- there is a short 10 minute segment in reel # 1 where the sound is out of synch but it is merely dialogue and no important scenes are affected. It self corrects. Obviously a lab error / Sound is good /with no V.S.
