"LAD: A DOG" (1962) is based on the 1919 book by Albert Payson Terhune, an American author, dog breeder and journalist. He was popular for dozens of novels relating to the adventures of his beloved collies and as a breeder of collies at his Sunnybank Kennels. This film, set in the period it was written in, focuses on the adventures of Lad and his relationship with a disabled young girl, the daughter of a wealthy dog-hating neighbor.
Peter Breck plays Terhune and Peggy McKay ha...s the role of his wife. Angela Cartwright (of the "Danny Thomas Show") is cast as the young girl and her snarling father is Carroll O'Connor (long before his days as Archie Bunker).
It's a colorful, heartfelt story about a love of collies and has plenty of excitement for kids. It has a rating of 7.2 on IMDb.
This LPP (low-fade) Eastman Color print is in beautiful condition, with all its original leaders and only minor tape splices where commercials were placed. No t.v. cues. There is little wear on either the base or emulsion. It is complete at 98 minutes on three metal 1600' reels. No warping or vinegar.
