Kawase Hasui Recent estate find. The print itself measures approximately 15.25” x 10.5”. The top edge of the print is attached (glued) to the back paper, and the top edge of the back paper itself is glued to the mat, but the print and the mat are not glued to each other.I left the print matted. I felt it was best to let someone with more experience remove the print. I have no idea if the print can be safely removed from the paper, or if it will need to be cut out with the paper sti...ll attached across the top. It is definitely glued to the paper, so I had no desire to even try … I was afraid I would tear the print up.You all know so much more about the removal and preservation of woodblock prints than I do.The print has an evident mat shadow along the right edge and across the top edge. Noticeable discoloration, distracting discrepancy in color – the trees on the far right edge still look green instead of a blueish green. Because of the mat shadow, it is now easier to recognize the level of discoloration to the print as a whole. Brownish yellow discoloration throughout. I’m assuming at least some level of fading is also a reason for the discoloration.Under a bright light, I can barely recognize a bit of a surface wrinkle to the sky area – so very minor and likely there since the beginning. I tried to show this picky observation in the eleventh photo (bottom right image).The backside of the back paper has a green Hayashi Shochikudo label. The very top edge of the back paper, again on the backside, is very crude and rough looking, which is shown in the ninth photo – this is the back paper that is shown in this photo, not the print.The back paper and the mat are both badly yellowed and soiled.The last photo shows the green label, some fading to the bottom right corner, and the evident discrepancy in color along the right edge.I ask that you please help me out by closely reviewing the provided pics to best judge what you are bidding on.
