18 Antique Ironstone Flow Blue Staffordshire Plates Elsmore Forster Tulip No. 2
Item History & Price
They are in the company’s Striking Tulip Shape/Pattern, which is also known as “No. 2”. The pattern has floral sprays along the rim in two tones of Flow Blue, one a traditional cobalt flow blue and the other a softer and unusual sky flow blue.
These pieces are hard to come by, and it is rare to find them together in a grouping as l...arge as this.
The pieces are thick and heavy ironstone.
The Set Displays Wonderfully and is in Very Good condition especially for its age.
The set consists of:
- 6 plates, between 9 ¾ inches and 9 7/8 inches across.
- 6 plates, between 8 ¾ inches and 8 7/8 inches across.
- 6 plates, about 8 inches across.
There are no chips or cracks to any of the plates. All the pieces have fine, even under-the-glaze crazing as expected of ironstone of this era. A few have mild/faint toning in areas that is hard to see. There are also minor glaze slips and a few manufacturing blemishes from the firing process (see last photo). Three have considerable utensil marks from use.
All of the plates have an Elsmore & Forster impressed mark: 10 are round marks; 5 are rectangular marks; and 3 are half circle marks.
These pieces were part of a much larger set discovered at a recent estate sale and are fresh to market. I am selling many other groupings and pieces in this Tulip pattern and will combine shipping whenever possible.
