Antique Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Blue Decor A.J. Butler, New Brunswick, NJ 2G. Antique Salt Glazed Stoneware Jar The potter is A.J. Butler who worked in New Brunswick, New Jersey from around 1862 to 1875This is a two gallon jar and is a much less common shape for Butler. We see nemerous jugs made by Butler but do not find other jars. Both sides are decorated. On one side there is a large freeform design in cobalt blue of two flowers... that look like tulips. On the other side we see more hand applied cobalt design, a large number 2. On this same side and above the 2 is the makers stamp some of which is faint. A. J. BUTLER MANUFACTURERNEW BRUNSWICK.
