Up for bids is this Antique 19thC Mexican Prison Folk Art Carved Coconut Shell Bank. This is a hand carved openwork coconut made which was made by an inmate in a Mexican prison. These banks were made and used to barter for better food and favors. Measuring 5" long x 3 1/2" high. This carved coconut shell features a hand carved eagle, a woman and a man with flowers and leaves throughout.... The coconut is an openwork carving and deeply carved with lots of fine details. There is a slot for coins to be dropped into the coconut. On one end there are two eyes and a mouth. The eyes are supposed to be abalone but one is abalone and the other is meant to look like abalone. There are a few coins inside the coconut,
