Joanies is very excited to be offering a fine and rare selection of Ming and pre Ming ceramics and other interesting objects including examples from the important estate collection of the late Mr. Pao. We have offered several items from this collection over the past couple years and have now been asked to offer ...the remaining pieces. Mr Pao was a personal friend and was highly respected as a knowledgable scholarly collector and Chinese art dealer during the 1960-90s period. Mr. Pao owned a high end Chinese art gallery in the prestigious Four Seasons hotel in Toronto that has been closed for around 20 years now. The sale also includes an important set of five early Ming dynasty Buddhist emblems that were deaccessioned by the Royal Ontario Museum c1969.
A number of the items being offered from the collection were scheduled to be sent to New Yorks’s high end auctions, but due to large sale delays and other issues this year the estate had asked us to offer All the remaining items. A great and rare opportunity to acquire some investment-grade examples. This will be our Last large Asian art offering of the winter season.

Up for auction is a FINE ANTIQUE CHINESE ORMOLU GOLD GILT BRONZE BUDDHA FIGURE MING QING DYNASTY. Part of an important estate collection being offered this week.
An interesting bronze Buddha figure that we believe would date from the later Ming to Qing dynasty. This figure is embellished with Authentic Ormolu gold gilding, which is not commonly found. This real gold gilding was a cherished addition to such examples and we believe likely indicates legitimate age. Most examples such as this were commonly later re-gilt using more of a paint lacquer than real ormolu gold like this. This liquid gold material created with the use of mercury was so highly prized and valueable you can see only the front side was gild with the back side of the figure being unfinished bronze. You find this kind of work done on very early French Louis XV ormolu bronze examples. This unique figure is well worth looking into and is being offered Without Reserve!
Condition: Estate-fresh, fine overall condition for its antique age with no missing pieces and no repairs. Still retaining its original back plaque. UV light reveals no later alterations or repairs.
Size: Measuring 7 inches tall in total or 5 3/4 inches tall to the top of the Buddha by 3 5/8 inches wide and 2 7/8 inches deep. The figure weighs 712 grams.
