Adorable and rare Tippie character dog from the comic strip "Cap Stubbs and Tippie" created by Edwina Dumm considered to be the first woman editorial cartoonist in the US. Comic strip ran for 48 years 1918 to 1966. I have not seen another mohair dog like this one or found any information on the computer. He is in very good condition with no holes, stains or odors. Has adorable plastic cartoon eyes, black embroidered nose and mouth and wears a red patent leather collar. Head is jointed ...and limbs are not and it is firmly stuffed. Not sure with what material, I do not believe it is straw there is no crackle sound when squeezed. Still retains original hang tag that is in great shape with no bends or creases, marked "A Woolnough Toy" with Tippie name on reverse side. Reverse side is also marked FW Woolnough Co., not sure if this is connected to FW Woolworth ????? Measures approx. 8 inches long nose to tail and 9 inches tall to top of ears. Would make a great rare addition to a character doll collection. Please zoom photos for condition.
