A Fine & Rare Chinese Gilt Bronze Buddha Statue. Ming/Qing - Like Tibetan, Indian
Item History & Price
It depicts the Buddha as a child, moments after he was born, pointing to the sky and the earth. It is at this point in the story of his life that he announced “Heaven above and earth beneath, I am the Honoured One, the One who liberates all who suffer in the Three Realms.”
It is a truly beautiful piece and has clearly had a history of workship ...and devotion.
The statue has evidence of gilding throughout as well as traces of red lacquer. The reddish colour of the bronze suggests a high copper content, which has been enhanced probably by polishing in recent years.
The piece has a chunky, heavy weight to it and the main figure of Buddha is likely to be solid cast.
The tip of his top finger has been unfortunately worn away but is otherwise in excellent condition commensurate with age.
Height: 22cm
Weight: 1, 335 kg
