Very rare and original, ca1890’s Pair of Native American Cree Indian Bead Decorated, Hide Moccasins.
This outstanding Pair of turn of 19th century Cree Moccasins each measure approx. 8 1/2" long at their stiff hide / parfleche soles. These wonderful Cree Indian Moccasins are sinew and thread sewn by hand with spot stitched beadwork executing a floral and foliate design using translucent and faceted glass trade beads of pink, light blue, light green, cobalt blue, chalk white, dark ...green and translucent seed beads. The Moccasins retain remnants of a thin, trade cloth border on the “Mary Jane” style cuffs. The name of the previous owner – L. A. Hay – is neatly written in ink on the soles.
Provenance: These Moccasins have been recently deaccessioned from the Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society of Easton, Pennsylvania.

They are NOT reproductions or modern recreations but original Cree Moccasins crafted in the 4th quarter of the 19th century. These rare and beautiful, ca1890’s Cree Indian Bead Decorated Moccasins are in very good condition. The hide elements are generally well preserved and sound with surface soiling and honest use wear to the soles. Both Moccasins have loss to the trade cloth border at the cuffs. The beadwork is very beautiful and well preserved with no bead loss or damage.
