This is a particularly nice, smaller sized and beautifully colored green Hampton Butte petrified wood round with an uncommonly intense green shade and a few hints of wood grain still left in this largely jasper replacement. Though this is a vast and productive petrified forest that spans many miles of hillsides and canyons, good rounds with nice color are a rare treat as most of what is found is incomplete and highly jasperized. This slab shows quite a bit o...f wood structure, but not enough to identify it beyond a diffuse porous hardwood with my amateur skills. That you can see the wood structure clearly enough to get that far puts this slab in a category of rare pieces for this site. Regardless of it's story, it's an attractive specimen that will provide hours of fascination for it's new owner. We were able to coax a mirror finish from this nice slab - it's ready to be shown with pride in your collection! Good luck! Arguably one of the most well known and interesting petrified wood deposits in Oregon is the "Green Wood" deposit at Hampton Butte in Central Oregon. This wood is more jasperized than agatized and is often more of a cast than a wood replacement, though exceptions to both of these are certainly found. The logs are more often than not fairly fractured, but the colors are unmatched anywhere else. The dominant color is green - REALLY GREEN! These are accented with white, yellow, red, orange and other classic jasper tones - but green is what it's all about if you're looking for a good Hampton Butte specimen. Not every piece will polish well, and they don't all look an awful lot like wood, but a good specimen is tough to beat and a must have for any serious petrified wood collection - or even if you just happen to love green! This round is kind of tough to get a good photo of, but the color is pretty true on my monitor. It's a fairly green stone with an almost khaki hue. It stands out as an amazing natural specimen in a color rarely found elsewhere. There's a ton of white agate inclusions throughout the rock. It's got a pretty high agate concentration and took a reasonable polish - something we work hard to produce on every stone we sell! If you haven't seen our petrified wood specimens before then you've been missing one of the best treasures found on eBay! We work hard to find the best specimens from the most prized locations and then work with our magic to create a world class specimen for your collection. The piece is quite solid and meant to be handled. A quick squirt of windex will remove fingerprints from the glassy polished surface. It measures about 5 1/4" wide and is sliced about 0.35" thick. Weight is about 0.50 lbs. Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary is happily providing UPS shipping to greatly reduce shipping charges on large rock orders.
