Description/Interesting Notes: A large and impressive example of spessartine garnet from this classic Brazilian locale!!! Let me start off by saying that this specimen is way better than these pics show - this crystal is VERY large in comparison to the majority of the etched garnets from this loc...ale and it is much more complete and finely crystallized than the pics show!!! The faces are lustrous an exhibit sharply defined details upon close inspection in person!!! The crystal exhibits an orange-red color with marked clarity throughout!!! There is a small amount of another micaceous species present in some recesses as well!!! This is OLD material that dates back to the 1950's or earlier!!! This specimen is from the collection of Dr. A. Lincoln Sherk II (1896-1970)!!! In addition to many impressive worldwide specimens and subcollections, Dr. Sherk's collection contained an impressive suite of historic Delaware County specimens!!! Dr. A. Lincoln Sherk was a noted Philadelphia area physician and friends with other notables Sam Gordon, Toothaker, and A.E. Foote among others!!! Dr. A. Lincoln Sherk, along with his wife, acquired an impressive collection and even created a small but significant private museum in their basement!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
