Very fine old Easter Island Moai Tangata Moko carved wooden lizard man, Rapa Nui, sophora wood with obsidian and bird bone eyes, showing expert, fluid workmanship. Dark brown patina with hand and storage wear to surface at the tips of the feet and chin of the carving. From the Georgia estate of a respected, tenured university professor who traveled extensively throughout the world from the 1940’s through the 1980’s and gathered a beautiful and large anthropological collection. We b...elieve this piece to be late 19th or early 20th century based on the age of most of the other pieces in this estate; we have taken as many photograph angles as possible for the buyer to judge for themselves as well.
