Up for auction is a Cherokee Indian Steatite and Shell Fish effigy Pipe. This is a historic piece of art. Open mouth fish base with bone eyes inset on both sides. Engraved on both sides. Very thin bowl. Circa 1850's. Cherokee. It looks to have been salvaged at one time at the tail, but is hard to tell looking at it. It is 5-1/2" long by 1-3/4" wide by 2-1/4" tall. It is 1" in diameter at the bowl. This piece is out of the Lutheran Reverend Ernest Von Kronwitter that was from Germ...any but was doing Missionary work in the Dakotas and other Indian Reservations in the early 1900's He collected these items and took them back to Germany before World War 1 broke out.
