ANTIQUE ALL WOOD w/ Surface Finish Glass Eyes Painted Hair VINTAGE 21" BOY DOLL
This doll, among my others, also came from the Strong Museum in Rochester, NY. The accession number on his back, on the edge of the opening for his neck (see photo).
This doll is going to be a tough one for me to describe because I have never had one like it. He appears to be all wood, with blue, glass, stationary eyes. He has painted hair, painted cheeks, upper and lower pai...nted eyelashes and eyebrows. He is a socket head and the head is all wood (or a substance made with wood) and then painted. He is jointed at the neck, shoulders, tops of the legs, and knees. This doll measures approximately 21" long (when restrung) and is in, I would say, fair to good condition. His head looks good but the end of his nose appears to have a, started and never finished, repair. He has a number of tiny pin size holes on his head that you really don't notice. His neck has areas of soiling. All of his body parts are wood but the wood has a thin, brittle, surface finish that is cracking and flaking off. (His head does not have the same finish) When it flakes off, you immediately see the wood. Being all wood, he is quite heavy. The clothes that he wears appear to be antique but the pants are too big at the waist and are pinned. He has a very thin shirt with a large collar, pants with decoration, and a jacket with the same decoration...all are in very good condition. All of his parts are very loose and he needs to be restrung. This is a very interesting antique doll and I have never had one like him. If someone knows anything about him, I would love to hear from you. I'm sure this doll will be a treasure, once restrung and given a little TLC. He is being offered as is and with a low starting bid.
