A monstrous and nicely preserved caudal vertebra from a Tyrannosaurus rex. The sheer size of this specimen is impressive- it measures about 7” long and 8” high and weighs over 5 pounds! This is somewhere near the final third of the tail (the last pic shows a diagram of associated tail vertebra from a Field Museum Trex specimen- this one compares nicely with vertebra S and T.) It truly gives you an idea of how big an adult rex was! The diamete...r of the centrums are roughly 4.25” wide! There is some slight distortion, as is often the case with large dinosaur remains- but the preservation is wonderful! Pics tell the story- but you really need to hold this monster in your hands to get real perspective. From the Hell Creek Formation, found on private property in Dawson County, Montana.
