Original Description:
Happy summer, everyone.
It's Friday, June 21st, and I'm writing this from a cottage near Stonehenge, where I'm waiting patiently for the solstice. Just kidding. It's Sunday, June 23rd, and I'm writing this from my living room in North Carolina, where I'm staring out at my neighbor's driveway, watching his German Shepard chase a skink. I lead an exciting life.
Not to be outdone by my last batch of listings, I've got 6 more outstanding auctions for you this w...eek, each showcasing an ancient example of what happens when art gets intermingled with industry. So when you're finished here, make sure to check out my other listings. Here's an excellent 1898 Edison Home cylinder phonograph with an early Automatic reproducer, an all-brass 30" seamless horn and an uncommon and unusual Chicago Horn Support, known also as the Crazy Crane, the Kooky Krane, the Insane Crane...I suspect there are other names, but those are the three I've heard.
The phonograph is original throughout, and it's a beauty, as is the rare seamless horn.  And everything is clean, as you can see in the photographs.  All of the plating on the small hardware is original, with minimal tarnish and oxidation. The record shaving assembly, which is typically missing on early Edison Home phonographs, is present on this one, and it's both original and complete. The original Automatic reproducer has an excellent stylus, and a clear, undamaged diaphragm. It was designed to be used with early brown wax records, but it can also be used with later black wax records, albeit with a more aggressive dynamic response.
The Japanned bedplate enamel is original throughout and is still deep black and in excellent condition. The delicate gold pinstriping on the bedplate is also original and it exhibits only minimal wear, consistent with its age, fragility and gentle handling.
The cabinet is in excellent condition, as you can see. The original finish is still smooth to the touch, and the original banner decal is still vibrant.  All of the corners on the lower cabinet, and on the lid, are still tightly joined. The lid is beautiful, with no damage.

The mechanism below the deck is in excellent condition, and everything is working properly.
The 30" all brass seamless horn is original, and it's in excellent condition.  No dings, no dents, professionally polished.
The Chicago Horn Support is also original, and it too is in excellent condition. One of the most novel crane designs from the early days of phonographs, it weighs only a couple of pounds and folds down to less than 18" when not in use. Requires no floor space and hardly any extra room on the counter, tabletop or shelf where the phonograph is placed -- just three or four inches right in front, as you can see in the first photograph. No need to drill any holes in the cabinet, no need to screw a foot into the underside of the base. A pretty remarkable crane, regardless of what you want to call it.
The phonograph plays well, especially for such an early and typically temperamental "suitcase" style Home.
I'll include an early brown wax record so that you can enjoy the phonograph as soon as it arrives.

I've been selling and shipping antiquephonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for morethan 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'llreceive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefullypacked (by me, not by some well-intentioned butnonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store whowouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive aphonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up andoperating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works.  Sure, you can probably get a lowerprice from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrivesbroken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able toput it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactlywhat you pay for.

If you're bidding from overseas, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote. The phonograph is large and heavy, and it cannot be shipped to some countries. Therefore, I will need to confirm my ability to ship it to you before you place a bid. Auction participants with no prior feedback should contact me before placing a bid.

That's about it.  Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
