Original Description:
This is a nice middle section of a titanothere femur.  We find these fairly often and they almost never have either the proximal or distal ends attached like this specimen.  They must be weak on the ends as they tumble down the river deposits and break apart.  We have only found two or three complete femurs.  This fossil is probably from a young adult based on the size.  It could be a juvenile too.  This comes from our private lease in Wyoming and is part ...of an ancient river deposit as all the fossils we find are found in dense packed sand from an ancient sandbar.  This is a nice heavy piece that would be the centerpiece of a late eocene/early oligocene fossil display.  The age on this is approximately 30 to 35 million years ago.  This fossil has had the cracks filled in and then sealed with paleobond to strengthen and preserve the bone.  No other restoration has taken place...it is as found.
