WWII BRITISH NO. 45 SQUADRON RAF LARGE THEATER MADE TRENCH ART BRASS GONG

Up for bid is just a tremendous piece of original WWII theater made trench art. The item is a large decorated gong made out of brass for the British No. 45 RAF Bombing Squadron. The piece was made by a local artisan either for the squadron to use to signal chow, air raids, etc.. or possibly simply as a souvenir. The gong is decorated with a geometric pattern encircling Egyptian motifs, pyramids, Sphinx, etc.. In the center is the insignia of the squadron, which is a winged camel. The N...o. 45 Squadron served in the North African Campaign, Egypt, Libya, East Africa, Syria, Burma, and Arakan during World War Two. The item measures 12 inches in diameter and was probably made from a large hammered out brass artillery shell. I usually don't collect trench art, but this was one of the best pieces I had ever seen. The vintage trench art gong is in solid shape exhibiting a few small dents/dings. The front of the gong has been polished at some point presumably years ago.
