Chirostenotes Hand Bone
This thin manus (hand) digit comes from the theropod, Chirostenotes Pergracilis. The little that is known about Chirostenotes is based mostly on a set of articulated hands and a scattered skeleton. The name Chirostenotes means "narrow hand".
This Chirostenotes hand digit was found in two pieces. The two pieces were reattached and the fossil was then stabilized. Original matrix was left in some cracks to help stabilize th...e fossil. The hand bone has great detail and preservation with a dark brown coloration. All around a nice example of a Chirostenotes hand digit that would be a great addition to any fossil collection.
The Chirostenotes Hand Digit measures: 1/2" of an inch wide by 3 1/8" inches in length.
This rare hand bone was dug out of a microsite in the Hell Creek Formation of Carter County, Montana. The Chirostenotes fossil was collected on private ranch land with the owner's permission.
