I recently found this sight gauges at a swap meet. This one was said to be a early gas pump sight gauge ? I really dont think so myself. I've never seen one like it, but it's very old with great patina and definetly could be used on a gas pump with the correct fittings. This measures 9" overall. The glass measures 5" tall . The overall wideth is 4' " at the top and bottom. It's metal, but not brass. Very cool design. I dont think this is actually for a gas pump, but it would look prett...y cool on a gas pump . This is treaded on the bottom, but it's small , like 3/8" pipe size. I’ve been told this was used in gas stations and repair shops to determine MPG on vehicles , used from the 1930s thru the 1950s. In the1930's through the 50's, an auto repair shop would hang this from the cars window to check the MPG of the vehicle. He would, in-line tap this unit into the car or pick-up's gas line at the carburetor and the engines fuel pump would fill the glass bowl to the cut line (on top) then he will turn a valve off that would be connected to the bottom of this unit, now this would gravity feed the gas in the glass to the carb, then he would drive the car until the fuel reached the bottom cut-line on the glass, then he would calculate the gas MPG usage. This one looks like one quart but, these also came in pint size too
