The Hardy Silex Multiplier was produced between 1928 and 1939, and only approximately 400 were ever made according to the Hardy book written by John Drewett. The Silex Multiplier was one of the precursors to the modern baitcasting reel as we know it, and the internal workings of this reel are as complicated as anything modern.
All parts are original and in excel...lent working condition with the original finish in outstanding condition with almost no wear or fading from the gunmetal finish and only a couple of minor scratches. This reel looks like it was barely fished--if at all--and you would be hard pressed to find a specimen anywhere in as good of condition.
The ivorine thumb release lever is in mint condition, and the mechanism still works--it engages when pressed down, and releases when you turn the handle. These reels were mounted on the rod with the ribbed reel foot down--the opposite of the way a fly reel is mounted. We believe the half moon regulator was adjusted internally, as it does not move with any kind of external adjustment.
Includes reel bag--which we believe to be original--which is also in excellent condition. The bag looks like it is made from canvas on the outside, with a velour type of lining inside. Inside rim of bag has the Hardy logo.
We do not have --nor will have--any pictures of the internal parts of this reel because we do not want to dis-assemble it and risk any damage.
This particular reel features a special chapter in its history. We are selling it for its current owner, John Osgood, who is the only living descendant of John Cleveland Osgood--the industrialist who built the town of Redstone, Colorado and the Redstone Castle--aka Cleveholm Manor--where he rubbed elbows with Roosevelt and Rockefeller in the early 20th century (which is right down the street from our 2nd fly shop location).
This is an awesome collector's piece, which you could actually fish if you wanted to. Thanks for looking.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: You are responsible for paying any customs duties/ taxes, which vary from country to country. WE WILL NOT FALISIFY CUSTOMS DECLARATION FORMS, SO DON'T EVEN ASK. There are many reasons buyers should not ask sellers to engage in this activity: 1) It's illegal. 2) Your item cannot be insured at full value if it is not declared at full value, making you financially responsible if it is lost, stolen, or damaged. 3) Items that are under-declared are much more likely to be seized by customs officials. 4) Asking a seller to participate in customs fraud is against Ebay policy
