Here's The Story ...
My last photo is the label applied by Judy Mathieson, a well-known, award-winning quilt maker living in California.
Judy bought this top (made circa 1890), even though it had, as she describes it, "A Mount Vesuvius" in the center.
The original quilt maker, a terrific designer, was apparently not such a great piecer, and ended up with a major "bunch-up" in ...the very center of her quilt top.
Judy loved the fantastic design and decided to fix it ~ and then finish it. She re-did a good number of pieces until she got it flat.
Then she filled it, backed it, hand quilted, and bound it. Adding a sleeve for hanging, Judy had it on her own wall ~ other times, she used it for teaching.
So, now it measure 74 x 74 inches and lays completely flat. A nice tidy size for hanging.Excellent Condition -- no issues noted.
The design is intact, and the cotton binding Judy chose and hand applied is the perfect choice for a wonderful "two generation" all-cotton quilt.
I'm right here to answer any questions you may have.
