This is a re-list. The Belgian winning bidder did not want to pay the cost of shipping so here's your chance at it againUS WWII M1 Fixed Bale Helmet w/ Westinghouse LinerThis is a standard, honest, US WWII M1 Helmet and I'm starting it off cheap. I bought it at an antique car show / swap meet back in 2014. You remember them. The guys would have their cars in a grass field with a blanket out in front of them selling all kinds of car parts. Well, this helmet and your regular old whit...e "Howard Cunningham" Civil Defense were laying on one guys blanket. I got them both for thirty bucks. Both belonged to the same guy, Mitchell F. Salkley. Both are currently listed. As it turns out a fellow collector / historian, graciously, on his own accord, did forty five minutes of research through multiple venues to find out that this man was a career soldier who served in Battalion Command in Germany in WWII. He later served in the Korean and then in the Vietnam War. This fellow eBayer was also kind enough to send me the picture of him. It is him on the right handing out an award in 1958.It's a Westinghouse liner who's sweatband has seen better days but is fully intact. It's missing the leather liner chin strap. It's also missing the web sewn-on chin strap as well. It's has fixed bales and is front seamed. What's interesting about this helmet is that it appears to be camouflaged in that it has brighter green paint marking the outside that is very consistent with the rest of the paint. I've been collecting helmets for 35 plus years and I don't trust or believe 95% of ANY of the painted helmets out there however, this one is one that I do believe to have been done during the period and in theater.
Be sure to check my other auctions for more helmets and other pieces of interesting militaria. Also, be sure to check my feedback. Bid and buy with confidence.
Good Luck
