Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:3827527 |
This subtly beautiful antique Aubusson tapestry pillow was bought from Paul Jones in the early 1990's in London on the Kings Road. When purchased at trade pricing, this cost £325.
Paul Jones were known as the preeminent source for spectacular and authentic antique tapestries. They always did the finest job matching antique trims to the textile fragments they made up into lavish one-of-a-kin...d cushions and pillows. This one is no exception!
The Aubusson floral scene is in muted tones of tan, taupe, beige, rose, and ochre, and is trimmed in an antique silk bushy "moss" fringe in a pale rusty-rose tone, interspersed with tan/beige tassels. The pillow is backed with a quality vintage mouse-back "brown" (more like a beige) velvet. Stuffed with goose down and feathers as only one would for an AUTHENTIC English country house.!
The pillow measures 16"W x 13"H not counting the 1.5" wide fringe.
Perfect for the chaise lounge in your boudoir or study-- if not on your living room's favorite settee. Get a piece of decorative arts history. A steal at this price.
Good condition. Faded as expected from this kind of Aubusson tapestry. Some wear and frayed spots on the tapestry that could be mended or left as is for effect. Bushy silk tassel trim has lost a tassel (hard to tell, but on the left edge) and could be steamed to look even fuller.! See photos as they serve as part of the item description.
