This porcelain plate was produced in Germany by Meissen in the 1890s. It has first quality under glaze crossed swords mark. The plate measures 9 7/8 inches and is 1 ½ inches deep. The body of the plate is cobalt blue. The center is decorated with figures in French enamel that is hand painted. A beautiful woman, most likely a goddess, is being attended to by cherubs floating in the air. A pair of doves hover nearby. The woman has a quiver of ar...rows at her side and she holds an arrow in her hand. It is an allegorical scene that has meaning in mythology.There is a thin gold band surrounding the scene and the rim is trimmed with gold. The design of white on deep cobalt blue is very pure and simplistic, enhancing the beauty of the subject. CONDITION: The enamel work seems to have been flawed in the manufacture. It is not scraped or painted over. It just came out that way. Meissen didn’t cancel the mark so they apparently were not concerned with it. Looking at it from arm’s length the defect is not so apparent. We are selling the plate “As Is”. Similar plates sell for thousands of dollars.
