*** Antique Chinese Red Silk Embroid Altar Cloth-Couched Bats+Forbidden Stitch Flowers *** This 19th century Chinese embroidery on red silk, the sister of one I have previously listed, has been much used and loved. Therefore, it is in "as found" condition. This embroidered door hanging or altar cloth measures 36" long by 40" wide. The 3 rondels on the top tier feature metallic gold couched bats and flowers plus tiny forbidden stitch flowers. Gold couched clouds surround the r...ondels. The second larger tier features a large rondel with a central dark blue symbol in tiny forbidden stitches and large gold metallic couched bats. The corners of the second tier include large blue silk satin stitch bats. Most of the embroidery is in very good condition. There are a few loose couched threads on the lower edge border as pictured. The band at the top has a large water stain and a few small ones. The deep red silk has evenly faded to a soft coral red. The silk to the left of the large bottom medallion is worn and shattering as pictured. The silk on the back has a few snmall stains and a few small holes as pictured. Despite its flaws, this 19th century altar cloth represents a testament to the amazing skill of Chinese embroiderers! Please review the pictures for the complete story of this piece.
