The bla...de represents the opportunity to own a historic Koto uchigatana, ca. 1500s, in ShinGunto mountings. The blade is in Very Good condition and themountings are in Excellentcondition. The sword is an uchigatanastyle short sword with a deeper curvature, meant for one-handed use in combat. It is a healthy sword and has a bladelength of 23.5 inches (59cm). The blade features an itame hada. The hamon is a Bizen-style midare hamon that is present the length of the blade ending in a midare boshi.The tang is mumei, or unsigned, and ubu, or unshortened.Based on the length and shape, the sword looks to date to ca. 1500s and islikely from the Sue-Bizen school, most likely Sukesada given the shapeof the hamon. The Sue-Bizen school was famous for supplying many swords duringthe Sengoku period of warring states.The mountings are Type 98 ShinGunto and in Excellentcondition. The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. There is alittle fraying near the top. The tsuba is classic WW2 with a complete set ofeight accompanying metal seppa. The saya (scabbard) is lacquered brown. Thesaya shows a couple very small dents, some cracking and some areas of missingfinish, retaining roughly 85-90%original finish. The blade is in VeryGood condition. There are some small nicks, some scattered small spotsof rust, and several scratches along the blades length. There are a couplesmall ware. There are no major flaws like hagires. I think this sword would bea great addition for a collector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms andadditional items: This item is original and not a knockoff or fake.
