Recent Prominent Eastern Coast, North Carolina estate sale find. From a deceased estate of a descendant of Navy Commander and former US Representative, C. S. Barker, Jr. and his father, Dr. Christopher Barker, Sr. Many items we purchased were passed down from these prominent North Carolina individuals. This listing is for a vintage set of seven cut crystal wine glasses. We believe these are Moser in an early release of the Royal pattern. ...; This pattern was created circa 1907 when commissioned for the wife of King Edward VII of England, Queen Alexandra; hence the pattern name Royal. This pattern is still produced by Moser today, but the stem size we are offering is not included with modern production pieces. Based on information from the estate where these were purchased, it was believed that these stems actually belonged to Dr. Barker, Sr., and date back as early as 1910 to 1920; however, we could not confirm the date. If these are in fact pre-production pieces, then certainly these stems would have been Water Goblets and not Wine Glasses. During that period, wine glasses were much smaller than contemporary pieces today, with an average pour size of about 3 to 4 ounces. These stems are in the right design and the glass has the feel and they carry a resonating chime sound when lightly struck of extremely fine crystal. Plus, they are not marked. Modern Moser crystal carries an acid etched maker's mark whereas a vast majority of vintage Moser glass does not. The craftsmanship is exquisite and the condition of each is exceptional with no chips, cracks, or haziness in the crystal. Extremely light shelf marks on the underside of the foot on some glasses; but very exceptional and not significant. These stems are brilliant, elegant and display incredibly well. Following the death of King Edward VII in 1910, Moser started releasing this pattern to high level government dignitaries and other royal families. Ultimately, the pattern was standardized and placed into retail production as the "Royal" pattern. Please review all pictures for design, dimensions and condition.
