It was named the 'Oyster Perpetual'. “Bubble Back” was the name we called it later on. The self-winding movement was quite thick and the rounded case back was made to house it rather than the original Oyster case. This gave the name the 'Bubble Back'. Rolex only produced this watch from 1933 – 1955, one year before Day Date was created!
The Case There is something uniquely masculine looking about the early cushion cased filled lug automatics from Rolex 32mm excluding crown, 34mm inclusive 39mm lug tip to lug tip, May not sound large by todays standards, but those blocked in lugs and the cases overall thickness of 9.5mm makes the early bubble-backs wear much closer to a vintage "tank" style watch of the era. In truth, the 5015 years and has a demanding pressence on the wrist

The DialIt's a rare thing to find these 1940s with original dials rarer still to find them in genuinely very good condition. This one is Exactly what we would want to see.Original RADIUM lume on the "transitional" dial taking the printed text from the early 40s inter and pre-war watches but we see very clearly the later design of the 50s that will come to envelop the design of the watches through the 60s 70s and all the way throughout to modern day Rolex.
Gold raised Arrowhead indexes And Dauphine Hands with an applied Metal logo corona at 12 are all very common features in today's watchmaking but a rare and expensive addition to watches of the 40s, in short, the 5015 and Rolex as a whole were true trailblazers of watch design and style.
