1960's HAND CARVED SWISS RUSTIC MAN 6.25" VINTAGE FIGURINE BRIENZ SWITZERLAND
Hand crafted Man from Brienz Switzerland , very detailed. In excellent condition; hand painted. Has been privately held since 1960's. Price $74.50 in 1960's.
Brienz, Switzerland is famous for wood carving, music boxes , violins and cuckoo clocks. Before tourism provided an additional source of income to the farming community, inhabitants were poor and working conditions far from pretty. Bu...t as it so happens quite often, famine fires up the imagination. A self-taught wood carver began selling his goods produced during long winter months to tourists almost two centuries ago. He laid the foundation to what became Switzerland's premier wood carving area.
