Name: Dorycrinus gouldi, Three Other CrinoidsAge: Mississippian Formation: Edwardsville FormationLocation: Crawfordsville, IndianaSize: Crinoid is over 4" long, almost 4" across! Here is a very collectible specimen of one of the most displayable crinoids in the world. This is a HUGE Dorycrinus gouldi from the the famous Crawfordsville, Indiana locality. This type of camerate crinoid has a large, bulbous-plated cup and somewhat slender, bis...erial arms. However, the distinctive feature of this crinoid is its LONG spines. This species has large spikes emanating from the tegmen - the spikes are wonderfully intact on this specimen. If that's not impressive enough, one of the long spikes has been prepared free-standing, sticking up high above the matrix plate - wow, what a display! The plate structure of the robust cup is also superb, the detailed arms are easily seen, and a LONG, articulated stem is also beautifully displayed. The fossil has exceptional color and contrasts strikingly with the light-colored matrix. The impressive sea lily is beautifully showcased on the large plate of siltstone that also contains an additional THREE DIFFERENT CRINOIDS, making it four different species of crinoids on the plate! This specimen was in a major fossil collection for over 15 years, and has more recently been in our collection for another ten. It is a top quality crinoid multiple with a spectacular display example of Dorycrinus, which is possiblly the most coveted Crawfordsville crinoid among collectors.
