Our Lady of Solitude is the image of the Virgin Mary after the deposition of Christ from the Cross. It depicts Mary, hands folded across her chest, in contemplation and introspection. Some versions show the Madonna holding th...e instruments of the Passion in her arms. She is the patron of the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. The image is housed in a basilica of the same name, built between 1682 and 1690 in the Mexican Baroque style, and forms part of the downtown section of the city, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
