Featured is an antique O. Ruffony Virgo Maria memorabilia medallion stand. The medal is a profile of the Virgin Mary with her title Virgo Maria. It is likely a souvenir from a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. O. Ruffony was an Italian sculptor (1846-1925) who worked in Paris, France. On the top of the frame on the back is marked Made in France. Ruffony’s signature is VERY faint but placed right where other’s medals I have researched are placed. I have included a photo comparing a sig...nature to another of the same piece on the bottom (listing is on top). The overall size is about 2” tall by 1 11/16” wide with the medal being 1 1/4” in diameter. The frame design itself is exquisite and made of a metal (not certain what type)with a wonderful patina. The artwork I am guessing is made of bronze since most of Ruffony’s work I have seen is executed bronze, but could be antique brass. The piece does show some wear from age, mainly with the hinging on the back not being sealed down on the far right side metal tabs (see pics), but it stays nicely together, and the stand works to keep it upright. What a wonderful religious relic!!
