This pilgrimage medal was minted in one year only (1891), for visitors to his relics in Segovia, Spain.It has a diameter of 2 inches, and it weighs 18 grams.It is thick and beautifully cast.John of the Cross was a reformer of the Carmelite Orderand is considered, along with Saint Teresa of Ávila, as a founder of theDiscalced Carmelites. He is also known for his writings. Both his poetry andhis studies on the growth of the soul are considered the summit of mysticalSpanish literature an...d one of the peaks of all Spanish literature. He wascanonized as a saint in 1726 by Pope Benedict XIII. He is one of the thirty-sixDoctors of the Church.
