She was a reformer of the Carmelite Order and is afounder of the Discalced Carmelites along with John of the Cross. Saint John ofthe Cross, O.C.D. (Spanish: San Juan de la Cruz; 24 June 1542 – 14 December1591), was a major figure of the Counter-Reformation, a Spanish mystic, a RomanCatholic saint, a Carmelite friar and a priest who was born at Fontiveros, Old Castile.John of the Cross was a reformer of the Carmelite Orderand is considered, along with Saint Teresa of Ávila, as a founder of theDiscalced Carmelites. He is also known for his writings. Both his poetry andhis studies on the growth of the soul are considered the summit of mysticalSpanish literature and one of the peaks of all Spanish literature.
