Rarely well preserved antique larger(approx. 1-3/4” tall with solid bale) Catholic Crucifix pendant featuringprimitive Medieval-style cast bronze design with high-relief image of the Crucified Savior and "budded" crossbar ends. The side and the bottom crossbar ends have three circles, or"buds" each, whereas the top incorporates the necklace bale as a partof the three-budded design. In a Christian context, such a design couldsymbolically represent the Holy Trinity, similarly to t...he three-leaved clover, or Shamrock. The Crucifix appears to be hand made from bronze or similarcopper-based metal alloy. It shows distinct marks from the maker's grinding file tools. Origin likely c. 17-18th century Western Europe, butcould be earlier, possibly late Medieval. The Crucifix and its necklace bale showsignificant signs of wear consistent with its suggested age includingdeformations of the original shape, reduced quality of artwork, scratches, dents, and original uncleaned dark green patina likely accumulated over many centuries.
