RARE - Canon IVF Rangefinder Camera – CLA’d – Nice Operating Condition
This later example Canon IVF rangefinder camera, s/n 67946, is offered for sale at a very reasonable price considering its overall condition and the scarcity of this model. This model was a significant development in the Canon line of rangefinder models made by Canon in the early 1950’s. There were only 2, 000 cameras of this model produced. The Canon IVF when compare...d to a Leica, has a much improved viewing and focus system that offers three levels of magnification for easier focusing. The rangefinder optics are very clean with a well-defined and accurate rangefinder patch. The shutter curtains have been replaced and the camera now operates properly. The camera has been cleaned and lubricated and all shutter speeds appear to be accurate and within tolerance, including the slow speeds. The exterior cover is excellent with no chips or cracks. A small separation where the left and right side of the outer cover meets directly beneath the lens mount ring has been touched up as seen in the last photograph. The chrome surfaces as seen in the pictures, show some brassing and minor scratches on the top surface. Otherwise the chrome for a nearly 70 year old camera is very good. The interior is clean and includes the film spool. The camera accepts all Leica thread lenses as well as the Canons and other M39 screw mounts of the period.
If you would like to begin shooting film with a Canon screwmount rangefinder camera, or are looking to expand your Canon collection to include a Canon IVF, this certainly is worth considering, especially for the price that it's being offered at! It has a maximum shutter speed of 1/1, 000 second and with a tripod could even take time exposures of the night sky! Due to its scarcity, it would make a wonderful display example in a private collection. Please refer to the photographs as they represent the exterior condition of the camera. An aftermarket body cap is included.
