1877 CROSBY 3 " Chime Steam Whistle W/RARE Vertical Valve
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:31152767 | Engine Type: Vertical |
Type: Valve |
This whistle features the ground breaking, classic 1877 US patent (#186, 718) by John Einig for the chime whistle. This was at the very end of the vertical valve era, next week I will be offering an identical whistle but with a more modern horizontal valve. Whistle bell is 3" diameter and is 6" tall, overall height is 12". Steam inlet is 3/4" npt. The vertical valve was used for many, many years but it was wasteful of steam.&...nbsp; It would leak until sufficient pressure built up to hold the valve closed. This 1877 chime with a vertical valve is quite rare, by far you will find most of these with the horizontal, spring loaded modern valve.
The lever has an old blacksmith repair. It features two rivets securing the brass lower end (the important part) to a piece of rusted iron.
**************************************************************************************What To Do With Dad's Collection?Since 2006 I have specialized in helping families pass on lifetime collections when dad is no longer able to participate in the process. I deal only in early technology items: brass oilers & lubricators, steam whistles, steam gauges, safety valves, flyball governors, steam toys, cutaway models and early railroad pieces. I do not handle large items such as tractors or traction engines or antique farm equipment. Allow me to help you maximize your return, in a timely fashion, while passing on the valued collection to the next care taker.Contact me thru eBay messages at: oldtchnlgy*****************************************************************************************

QUESTIONS: Feel free to contact me via eBay messages, thanks.
SHIPPING: Some items do not include a shipping price, as the things I sell are often heavy and/or odd-shaped and the cost of packing, insurance and shipping will depend on the winner's location and the item's value. When I do not list a shipping cost, eBay calls this "FREIGHT SHIPPING". That is not correct as most items will be shipped by Fed Ex, UPS or the Post Office. I'm happy to answer your questions about shipping estimates, but please DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. My packing store closes Saturday at 12 noon and is closed on Sunday.INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Cost for international packing, insurance and shipping also depends on weight, shape, size, value and the destination country. Please contact me through eBay for an estimate but PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.
