Forauction is a Vintage / Antique L.S. Starrett No. 39 Lock-Joint Inside Calipers, 6" Long, Made in Athol, Mass. U.S.A. This tool is likely over 100 years old, displaying a patent date of May 21, 1895 -- referring to U.S. Patent 539, 759 covering the lock-joint mechanism. Patents are typically only valid for 20 years so it would not not be reasonable to display patent information when no longer valid. This old tool is in good, fully functional condition. Th...ere is no significant pitting but as is typical of these older machinist tools, the tool steel has a darkened and mottled appearance from previous light surface rust. The locking mechanism works well.
