Matchlessantiques offers blacksmiths and collectors this 1937 NEAR MINT Fisher & Norris Blacksmith Anvil. Here's a beautiful anvil that would be great for any beginner. If you've never worked on a Fisher you'll be surprised as how well they perform. This anvil will rebound a ball bearing up just as high as anything I've seen. The face is perfectly flat and clean with some weld spatter in a few places. The edges are close to perfect and the rebound is excellent. The face... has a steel plate and the horn has a steel overlay. The front foot is marked "7" (for 70 lb.) and "FISHER" and the back foot is marked "1937". Please take a close look at the pictures.NOTE: This auction is for the 70 lb. Fisher Anvil ONLY. The cart the anvil is displayed on and the tools displayed in the background are NOT INCLUDED in this auction.Fisher and Norris was the first successful anvil manufacturer to exist in this country, as well as the last of the major anvil manufacturers to stop producing anvils in America. The company was founded in 1843 and produced anvils for 136 years. They produced more anvils than any other American anvil maker. Fisher became famous for perfecting the process of welding cast steel on high grade cast iron. According to Richard Postman's book, Anvils In America, Fisher claimed that "One blow on a "Fisher" anvil is worth two on any other anvil made". They went on to say that, "The Face Consists of a Single Piece of the Very Best Cast Steel Perfectly Welded of the Hardest Temper. The horn is made of Tough Untempered Steel and will neither Break or Bend. All "Eagle" Anvils made with the Latest Fisher Patent Double Thick Steel on Both Edges of the Face." There anvils received the nickname "Old Reliable" because of their reliability.Measurements are: length 17 1/2", face 3 1/4" x 11", horn 6 1/2", height 8 5/8", base 7 3/4" x 8 1/2", hardy 1/2", pritchel 3/4", and actual weight 69 lb.Michigan Residents Only: 6% MI Sales Tax will be calculated on the Total Price (Final Value Price and Shipping charges).
