STANLEYNo. 43 MILLER’S PATENT PLOW PLANE Stanley Rule & Level Co. Millers Patent Plow Planein superb condition. It has all its original parts and contains much ofits japanning. It is a type 6 – 6A (1883 - 87). This plow plane is clean, crisp, and very beautiful to display or use. The rosewood handle is inoriginal condition with no cracks or damage. Includes the original 5/16"cutter iron that does have the groove down its center to fit into the planes...skate. Type 6 included the knurled brass fence screws without thescrewdriver slot – as does this one. It also featured a slitter and rear depthstop and the 6-A rear depth stop was pressed steel as is this one. Thus it is atransition piece between a type 6 and 6A. The slitter is used to cut or slice thin pieces of wood like for veneer work. The plane is in excellent condition with no breaks, chips or repairs. A much scarcer plane then its No. 41 counterpart.
The Stanley Millers Patent Planes are perhaps the mosteye-catching of all American patent planes, truly art masterpieces as they exhibitthe artistic abilities of early tool makers. Charles G. Miller’s originalpatent model plane was even more beautiful than the later Stanley models; withan ebony handle having ivory inserts and also ivory inserts on the brass fixingand adjustment nuts. Of course this was all done to compete with the beautifulwooden plow planes being made at the time. This is a very nice example todisplay and also use every once in a while to do some plowing.
