On offer is an antique plaque commemorating the U.S.president Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. It is a beautifully designed bas-relief plaque measuring 7 1/4 x 12 3/4 inches and weighing 5 lbs. 11ounces. The material is not magnetic, so this is presumably bronze as it appears. Inscribed on the obverse of the plaque is a famous quote from T.R.:"I wish to preach, not the doctrine of ignoble ease, but the doctrine of the strenuous life, the life of effort, labor and strife; to... preach that highest form of success which comes, not the the man who desires mere easy peace, but to the man who does not shrink from danger, from hardship, or from bitter toil, and who out of these wins the splendid ultimate triumph."
The image of T.R. facing left is in high relief against an overall pattern of art nouveau style flowers.
Below this is his facsimile signature "Theodore Roosevelt". Original patina has been worn away in places. Rarer than the usually-seen plaque by Fraser (see my other auction for that plaque).Two mounting holes have been drilled near the top of the plaque. This plaque has been in my personal collection of presidential memorabilia for over 30 years. See the attached photos to evaluate the plaque's condition.
