1860 JOHN WILKES BOOTH / ABRAHAM LINCOLN ASSASSIN ALBUMEN CDV PHOTOGRAPH PHOTO
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:2785322 |
This is a very rare portrait of Booth which... was taken when the young actor was performing in New York City in January of 1860 and the example offered here was published and sold by the original photographer - likely long before there was a market for images of Booth as the assassin of Abraham Lincoln. The Image is a vignette, bust portrait with Booth wearing a fancy cravat and jacket with velvet collar. The card mount carries the mark of the original photographer - C. D. Fredricks - below the image on the recto.
This very rare and highly desirable, albumen, CDV Photo of John Wilkes Booth in very good condition. The Photograph exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. Here is some light soiling to the Image and some soiling and light edge wear to the mount. The back of the mount has some adhesions and thinning as well as hand ink stamps identifying the CDV as having come from the files of the Culver News Photo Service.
An exceptionally rare and highly sought after, CDV Photograph of the Assassin of President Abraham Lincoln – John Wilkes Booth - taken 5 years before the accomplished actor became the universally vilified assassin and a fantastic addition to any collection!! Important Notes about Shipping Charges: The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.
