This well known and important medal commemorates the centennial of George Washington’s inauguration as the first President of the United States of America in New York. It is copyrighted by Augustus St. Gaudens underneath the bust on the front. The medal is in a Neoclassical style featuring a Roman fasces; a symbol of law and justice along with Washington’s title “Father of the Nation” rendered in Latin as “Pater Patriae”. A similar medal was sold at Rego Auctions for $1600 ...a number of years ago. The patination on the medal appears to be in good condition with some toning on the rear, otherwise this medal is in very good condition. 4 1/2" Diameter 3/8" Thick ALSTCr
