OBJECT// Antique Chinese very fine and rare gilt bronze Buddha, this marvellous piece depicts I believe a seated teaching Lama although his face, hair and earrings are somewhat unusual? he remind me facially slightly of the Ming bronzes of the guardian of west but clearly he is not wearing armour, his face, hands and robes well modelled and hand finished, the hair has traces of coloured painted blue pigment, the surface has good old worn gold gilt surface, the subject of a Teacher is always a important subject in buddhist art and are much more rare than buddhists Taras, equally importantly this bronze to the reverse has a wonderful engraved Tibetan or sand script inscription, to me this seems like a very fine and rare Buddhist spiritual object, the piece has its original base plate beautifully engraved with four pointed vajra, when you shake it it sounds like something is within, it weighs an impressive 1268 grams, dating from the 18th century, Qing Dynasty object, genuine antique, superb colour and patina, serious collectors object.
