For sale is a stunning Antique Classic Sioux (Lakota) Beaded and Quilled Pipe Bag from circa 1890, collected by Amos Gottschall in the late 19th C.The bag is made from native tanned hide, sinew sewn, with parfleche slats decorated with quills and long supple fringe. The mouth is roll-beaded. The beadwork is sinew sewn and executed in typical Lakota designs in bead colors white, dark blue, periwinkle blue, rose-white-heart, medium green and greasy yellow. Small tin cones with horse hair... and some red and orange down feathers are used as extra decorations. The fringe is almost complete and supple.
This great pipe bag is a classic Sioux (Lakota) example from circa 1890, that was collected in the late 19thC in South Dakota by the famous Amos Gottschall. The pipe bag is in a very good condition with only minor quill loss.
The bag measures circa 30" x 7". The main beaded panel is circa 7" x 6"
