For sale is an Antique Herring Bros. Woodcarving Tool or Chisel. This is a straight gouge with a #4 sweep, a 1/4" Cut, and is 7-3/4" Long. Sharp and ready for work. Antique Herring Bros. Click images to enlarge Description For sale is an Antique Herring Bros. Woodcarving Tool or Chisel. This is a straight gouge with a #4 sweep, a 1/4" Cut, and is 7-3/4" Long. Herring Bros. carving tools are of the same quality as Addis tools. This tool is marked Herring Bros. London making it circa 1890. It also has a rare distributor mark. The tool is in good antique used condition with a crack in the handle that has been wrapped and is tight and stable. This is a high-end well-made tool that is sharp and ready for work.
1853 - Thomas Herring, 19, marries Harriet Addis, daughter of Samuel Joseph Addis. The couple had two sons, Thomas Herring (born 1853) and Joseph Herring (born 1857). Harriet died in childbirth in 1857. Thomas later went into the carving tool business with his brother Edwin, setting up shop across the street from Samuel Joseph Addis on Gravel Lane.Please examine the photos carefully, I take great effort to take quality photos of all angles and a picture is worth a thousand words.
